World Athletics U20 Championships Fundraiser
Athletics Wollongong's Chase Grant, Chelsy Wayne and Maiya Hewitt have won selection in the Australian team for the coming World Athletics U20 Championships.
It's a tremendous honour but it comes at a significant personal cost. The club will lend support to our representatives through fundraising efforts.

Athletics Wollongong and our members greatly appreciate any support received, whether through attending the event, purchasing lucky draw tickets, donating to the campaign, or simply helping spread the word.
All monies raised will be forwarded to the athletes, split equally. Thank you to everyone who has donated or bought a ticket so far.
Let's send our terrific trio to Oregon, confident that their clubmates are fully behind them!
Annual General Meeting Results
Athletics Wollongong’s AGM was recently held and, if the enthusiastic attendance there was anything to go by, we're in for a fantastic 2026/27 season.
Only one position on the Committee remains unfilled at this stage, with the club interested to hear from anyone who can perform the role of our Wednesday Competition Coordinator.
This person is in charge of getting the gear out and/or putting it away again for our Wednesday meets. They will need to be consistently available from around 4:30pm each week in order to ensure everything is ready prior to competition.
The position holder will be supported by other members in carrying out these duties, with the role focused on coordinating and overseeing the process. If you would like further information, email athleticswollongong@gmail.com.
A full run-down of the election results are available on the club website.
Any members who would like to read the 2025/26 Season Annual Report, are welcome to do so - please contact as per above.
Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore
The Athletics Wollongong Winter Distance Pointscore is approaching the halfway mark: it's not too late to get involved!
The competition is based around parkrun, the free weekly 5km community runs held each Saturday morning. Members can participate at any parkrun location, with their six best age-grade performances from May through August averaged to determine their final score. With only six runs required from a possible eighteen, there is still plenty of time to join the competition.
Five Athletics Wollongong members participated in all five of May's parkruns: Des Comer, Scott Bazley, Cath Chisholm, Bryan Kelly and Seattle Bazley.
In the Open category, Olivia Sivills has led the way with three age-grade performances above 80% at Reddall Reserve, each time finishing as first female. Katrina O'Brien claimed first female honours on the one occasion Olivia was absent.
Among the juniors, Axel Comer recorded an outstanding 17:10 at Sandon Point, finishing first overall and achieving an age-grade percentage above 80%, while Bronte Vermey has posted two performances above 70%.
The pointscore has already seen some traveling, with Cath Chisholm running in Melbourne and Bryan Kelly in Canberra.
Tristan Swinbourne has also been contributing to the parkrun community through regular volunteering at North Wollongong as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Members wishing to participate can sign up for parkrun free of charge and should ensure their profile lists Athletics Wollongong as their club affiliation.
To further encourage participation: each time you go for a run, or volunteer, you will earn an entry in a lucky draw! Increase your winning chances by making it a weekly habit.
Athletics NSW Events
Current memberships remain valid until 31 August, giving registered athletes the opportunity to compete in a range of events over the coming months.
With school athletics carnival season well underway, Athletics NSW is looking to capture that interest through its Winter Track & Field Series. The first meet has already been held at Campbelltown, with further editions scheduled for July and August.
For others, Winter means Cross Country. The NSW Cross Country Championships later this month will be a popular target, while the Short Course Cross Country Championships may prove even more appealing, particularly for local athletes, with the event to be held at West Dapto.
Details of these events, and many others, are available via the Athletics NSW calendar.
Oceania Championships Results
Well done to our Athletics Wollongong clubmates who contested the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin.
Cristine Suffolk produced a clean sweep in the Masters events, bringing home five gold medals from 800m through to 10,000m.
Olivia Sivills made her Australian representative debut in the Open 5000m, finishing in a creditable eighth place.
Delta Amidzovski showcased her “new normal” form, with every valid long jump effort over 6.50m. A silver medal was the result, missing gold by just 1cm.
Commonwealth Games Update
Delta Amidzovski remains firmly in contention for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the final Australian athletics team selections announcement imminent. Her 6.84m effort at Nationals is still the longest jump recorded by a Commonwealth athlete this year.
Spots are very limited, so for now we keep our fingers crossed!
World Record!
A rare honour for Athletics Wollongong Club Captain Rodney Tebbutt: a world record!
Rodney is now the holder of the 55-59 Men's Javelin World Record, courtesy of his 47.40m performance at Australian Masters in Canberra.
The specifications of the 700gm implement had changed, resetting the previous record - and Rodney beat out all other comers: worldwide!
Pathways
The NSW Athletics LEAP squad for 2026/27 has been announced. The aim of LEAP (the Little Athletics Emerging Athlete Program) is to identify emerging athletes and provide unique opportunities to support their development, while encouraging continued participation in track and field.
Congratulations to Athletics Wollongong members Thomas Baltyn, Jarrah Flack (Wollongong City) and Harlow Pate (Eastern Suburbs) on their selection.
Honours & Achievements
Little Athletics NSW has highlighted a series of “Australian Best Performances” achieved across the season (national age records under Little Athletics Australia).
Harlow Pate recorded two U12 records, breaking a mark that had stood since 1979 in the 400m (56.46s), and also setting a new best in the 200m (24.95s).
Kai Levitski broke the U9 800m record, lowering a 23-year-old mark to 2:24.72.
At the Athletics NSW Awards Night, Delta Amidzovski was nominated in the Outstanding Junior Athlete category. While she did not take out the award, she was recognised with the George Soper Memorial Award for Best Performance by a NSW Athlete at the Australian Championships.
