Join up for Season 2026/27 NOW
To join us for 2026/27, simply go to the Registration page on the club website (www.athleticswollongong.org.au).
Note that if you hold a 2025/26 membership and wish to continue participating in track and field - either with Athletics Wollongong or in any other NSW Athletics-affiliated club/competition - then you'll need to sign up for the new season.
Save money!
Here are some tips and tricks that may save you money this season:
- Active and Creative Kids Vouchers - School students may use $50 or $100 of Active and Creative Kids Vouchers to help pay registration fees. Obtain your Active and Creative Kids Voucher number before signing up and then enter it during the registration process.
- Family Discount - Three or more in your family to register with Athletics Wollongong? You will get $10 off the price of each membership. See the Registration page for further details before you sign up.
- Uni Student Discount - Never joined AW before and are attending the University of Wollongong? Contact us for a code to take $42 off competitive memberships.
- Presentation Discounts - A range of 2026/27 membership discounts were awarded at Presentation. Pointscore winners in the U20s to Masters groups earned $42 off their re-registration, while those who were medallists at Open or Junior Nationals received Membership Scholarships for an even bigger discount. Please contact us if you need help applying your discounts.
- Multi Club Membership - Already a member of another NSW Athletics-affiliated club or Little Athletics Centre? You can still join in all the fun at Athletics Wollongong and receive member benefits without needing to purchase an additional, full-priced registration. A Multi Club Membership with AW will only cost $42, saving up to $148. See the Registration page for further details before you sign up.
- Upgrading your membership - It can be a smart idea to initially join up as a Community member and only upgrade your membership to a higher level as you need to. While your competitive aims may be loftier than AW's own meets (where a Community membership will suffice) there's always the chance of injury or other commitments getting in the way come Championships (for which you'll need a higher-level membership). As there's no additional cost to upgrade, it's basically some free insurance to purchase a Community membership at first.
- No uniform required - you don't need to purchase a uniform to participate at our club meets, just wear whatever's comfortable. It's only when you represent the club at higher-level events that you need to buy a top and source some pants (royal blue; though plain black will also suffice).
- Track Entry Discount - planning on regularly attending AW's Wednesday meets? You can buy a 25-visit track pass at the Leisure Centre front counter to cover our entire season and save over 10% on your entry.
- Family Track Entry - two adult and two concession track entries come at a discount when purchasing a Family Track pass.
- Monthly Track Pass - attending the track at times other than our Wednesday meets? You can purchase a monthly track pass and be ahead if you're there as little as three times per fortnight.
- Leisure Centre Membership - using the gym or taking a class in addition to running with AW each week? You're throwing money away if you don't have a Leisure Centre Membership! The more you use the facilities at Beaton Park - or Lakeside - the more you save.
AW Info Night
Our 2026/27 Season will kick off on Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:30pm with an Info Night for new and prospective members - along with anyone else who's unsure of just what happens at our weekly meets.
Note that no events will be held, but people are welcome to use the facility themselves after paying for entry. The evening will instead be focussed on how a regular meet runs, an explanation of the various event areas, a brief rundown on how to conduct events safely, and some tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your Athletics Wollongong experience. Come for a tour and leave with a heap of knowledge and confidence.
If you're an old hand at Wednesdays, it's also a great chance to pick up a uniform!
Come & Try Nights
During the two weeks of school holidays we put the theory into practice, with our Wednesdays concentrating on a subset of events to provide a better understanding of how it all works:
- September 30th - Sprints and Throws
- October 7th - Distance and Jumps
Trialists are welcome, but they will need to register so that they are covered by insurance. A Trialing Membership is just $18 and that price will come off the cost of a full membership if you decide to continue participating.
Season 2026/27 Pointscore
Our Wednesday pointscore competition commences on October 14th.
Each week a variety of events are held, with your performances compared against others in your age group and points awarded accordingly. Those who collect the most points across the 20-round season win a trophy. Note that for those who can't regularly attend, there are also awards for individual performances.
Most important of all, though, is that the program rotates, so that you can track your improvement during the course of the season.
The full season calendar and summary of events to be held each round are available on the Competition page of the club website. Check it out! We hope you're as excited as we are!
To further encourage our members to participate in Wednesday meets, there are plenty of opportunities to win prizes!
Run Havoc $100 Voucher Giveaways
Run Havoc will return with their popular sponsorship of the club. Each month there will be two $100 Run Havoc vouchers up for grabs.
- 'Participation' voucher winners will be determined by lucky draw, with members earning an entry each time they participate in a club event.
NEW - volunteers will also receive a Participation entry. Event recording sheets will have a space you can enter your name to be added to the monthly draw (note that you can still only receive one entry per event - even if you're participating and helping).
- 'Achievement' vouchers are awarded for the best performance in a nominated event each month. These events will either be handicaps or performances will be age-scaled, giving everyone a chance to take out the win.
The schedule of 'Achievement' events is now available on the Competition page of the club website. If you're an infrequent attendee of our club meets, make sure that you're there on one of the nights a Run Havoc Achievement voucher winner is determined.
$100 cash to win each round of pointscore
Each and every week of pointscore, $100 cash will be up for grabs! You needn't be the fittest or fastest to be in the running. It might be whomever's closest to a certain distance in their field event, or runs closest to a time that they nominate. We'll shake it up each week but the guiding principle will be: give an event a go and you'll get a fair shot at the money!
Each month the challenges will be announced, with a reminder posted every Wednesday morning.
The sponsor of this exciting new addition will be announced soon!
Training and Coaching
Athletics differs from some other sports in that participants choose whether or not they wish to train at all. If they wish to receive coaching, then they seek a coach out themselves, based on their interest and the coach’s availability, location, experience, cost, philosophy, squad make-up, and so on.
If you're keen on improving your performances and learning more about our sport, see the list of endorsed coaches on our website and get in contact.
World Masters Athletics Championships Results
AW's Cristine Suffolk and Rebekah Power were in South Korea recently for the World Masters Athletics Championships.
Rebekah returned as World Champion in the 45-49 100m, 200m and 4x100m Relay!
Australian Cross Country Championships Results
The Australian Cross Country Championships were held in Ballarat late last month.
AW's Xavier Wilson brought home a silver medal from the U15 Para event.
Olivia Sivills continued her wonder Winter, finishing 7th overall in the Senior event. Showing that she's a star on the rise, she took the win in both the U23 and University Student categories.
2027 Championship Announcements
NSW Country Champs
It's official: the 2027 NSW Country Championships are returning to Wollongong. This is the best athletics event on the calendar; the largest that is open to athletes of all ages. January 15th - 17th is the weekend you need to keep free. While home field advantage is great, note that it does mean that our club has to provide quite a lot of support to the event. All Athletics Wollongong participants will be called upon to donate a couple of hours' of volunteer labour; just consider it part of the cost of competing (and getting to sleep in your own bed!)
Region Champs
For our younger athletes, the dates of the Region 4 Championships in Wagga have been confirmed as February 6th - 7th. If you are in the 13s - 15s ages, one way to qualify for your State Championships is to progress through the Zone and Region events as a top finisher. You might be able to save yourself the trip though, if you instead qualify as a top performer: hold one of the next best 8 performances (attained at Treloar, Country, or any other permit meet) and you'll win your way in. There is also direct entry to State for Hammer Throw, Pole Vault, Steeplechase and some hurdle and walk specifications. For the full story, see the Pathway Progression info on the NSW Athletics website.
Australian Open Champs
Finally, while the Australian Junior Championships venue remains the subject of rumours, we now know that Opens will be at Sydney Olympic Park on April 1st - 4th.
Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore
The winners of the 2026 Winter Distance Pointscore have been determined.
Olivia Sivills won the Open division, with an impressive 81.87 age-graded percentage. Olivia competed in 8 runs, was first outright on 3 occasions and first female 7 times.
Bronte Verney showed her commitment and consistency, winning the Junior Division with an age-graded percentage of 73.20%. Bronte also had the distinction of being the fastest female on one occasion at the Sandon Point parkrun.
The Most Improved runner this year was Ros Perry, bettering her average from 2025 by 10.17%
Thanks to Run Havoc's donation of $100 vouchers, we have been able to include two new awards this year. Winner of the Volunteers award was Tristan Swinbourne who volunteered on 6 occasions, whilst Winter Series Coordinator, Ron Perry, won the runners’ lucky barrel draw. Ron competed in 10 events and also volunteered 5 times. Olivia also takes home a Run Havoc voucher for her overall pointscore win.
Awards will be presented at our first Summer Pointscore evening for 2026 on October 14th.
NSW All Schools Championships
Best of luck to our members contesting the NSW All Schools, being held at Sydney Olympic Park from 26th – 29th September!
