Oceania Championships

Good luck to our Athletics Wollongong clubmates competing at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, commencing this Monday.

Cristine Suffolk will be participating in the Masters program, while Delta Amidzovski and Olivia Sivills will contest the Open division. For Delta and Olivia, valuable World Athletics ranking points will be on offer - in addition to the honour of representing Australia, of course.

Live results and livestream details will be available on the Oceania Athletics website.

World Athletics U20 Championships

The Australian team for the World Athletics U20 Championships has been announced — and Athletics Wollongong is proudly represented once again.

In addition to Chase Grant and Maiya Hewitt, who secured automatic selection at the Australian Championships, Chelsy Wayne will return to the event following her debut at the previous edition in Lima, Peru.

The Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon in early August, where we will see in action:

  • Chase Grant - 400m, 4x400m relay
  • Maiya Hewitt - 400m Hurdles
  • Chelsy Wayne - Discus

Participation at the World U20 Championships comes at significant personal cost, so the club will endeavour to support our representatives through fundraising efforts.

We are currently coordinating a barefoot bowls afternoon at club supporter Wiseman Park Bowling Club. There’ll be plenty of fun to be had, along with chances to win prizes, with proceeds going directly towards supporting our athletes.

There will also be opportunities for those unable to attend to show their support and contribute financially.

More details coming very soon!

NSW Cross Country Relay Championships

Expressions of interest are now open for those wishing to participate in the NSW Cross Country Relay Championships.

The event will be held on Saturday 30 May at The Armory, Sydney Olympic Park.

Each team comprises four runners, with races held across 9s through to Masters grades. Please note that an appropriate membership type is required to compete - Community registration is not sufficient.

To submit your interest, please complete the form by 22 May.

The club will cover the $55 team entry fee. If we are unable to form complete teams from club members, individuals are still welcome to enter independently (at their own cost).

Membership savings

For those wishing to participate in Winter events, Athletics Wollongong membership fees are now reduced.

For new members joining Athletics Wollongong, the club component of the fee has been discounted by $20 for the remainder of the season. The base fee set by NSW Athletics has also been reduced.

Together, while the listed cost of an Open membership at the start of the season was $180, it is now $55.

Members upgrading from Community membership may also benefit from savings — please check your membership options for details.

Annual General Meeting

Athletics Wollongong’s AGM will be held on 9 June in the boardroom of Wollongong City Tennis Club, commencing at 7pm.

The official meeting notice has been sent to the registered email address of all current members. This includes information on how to nominate for a position on the Committee.

This season we have had several Committee members undertaking multiple roles to ensure our members continue to receive the best possible club experience. Consequently, all members are encouraged to consider whether they may be able to assist the club away from the track.

A number of office-bearer and support positions are required to be filled. Some of these require regular attendance at Committee meetings (held on the second Tuesday of each month), while others do not.

If you would like further information, please speak with a current Committee Member about their experience, or email athleticswollongong@gmail.com.

Please note that extensive qualifications are not required — what is most important is a willingness to contribute to positive outcomes for the club and its members.

Presentation Night Review

Athletics Wollongong’s 2025/26 Season Presentation Night was held on 2 May at the Tennis Club.

A great turnout on the night saw some emotional moments as members were recognised for their achievements throughout the season.

Many have described it as one of our best Presentation Nights to date.

You can catch up on all the details via the relevant News Item.

Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore

Current memberships last until 31 August 31, so registered athletes will have the opportunity to contest many events over the coming months.

All competitive members are encouraged to participate in AW's Winter Distance Pointscore.  The competition is based around parkrun: community 5km runs, held worldwide, each Saturday morning.  There are local chapters at Helensburgh, Bulli, North Wollongong, Bowral, Lake Illawarra and Shellharbour - though some members have run further afield, even internationally.

During the competition window of May through August, your age-grade percentage is tracked and your six best performances averaged to find your score.  Only six runs out of a possible eighteen are needed to be eligible for the end of season awards - though more than six efforts will surely see your score go higher as your slower runs get dropped from your average.  There are more details regarding the competition HERE.

Sign up with parkrun - for free - and ensure that your profile reflects your association with Athletics Wollongong (otherwise you'll have to manually inform our Winter Season Coordinator of your participation each week).

Commonwealth Games

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow in late July. While not included in the first Australian team announcement, AW's Delta Amidzovski remains firmly in contention. An overall Australian team cap across all sports adds another layer to the selection process, but she appears well placed.

A strong indication of her standing is her involvement in the Australian team uniform launch - atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

The qualifying window closes at the end of this month and we anticipate the team will be announced shortly thereafter.

Athletics Wollongong Hoodie

Winter is coming!  Protect yourself from the cold and purchase an Athletics Wollongong hoodie.  We have sizes available from Junior 14 through to 3XL.  Buy a hoodie HERE, then see us at Presentation or a mutally agreed parkrun to collect.
