2026/27 Registrations Open August 1st

Memberships for Season 2026/27 will be available for purchase from August 1st.

Note that if you hold a 2025/26 membership, it will only remain valid until August 31st.  If you wish to continue participating in track and field from September - either with Athletics Wollongong or in any other NSW Athletics-affiliated club/competition - then you'll need to sign up for the new season.

To join us for 2026/27, simply go to the Registration page on the club website (www.athleticswollongong.org.au).

Though you won't be able to sign up for the new season until August 1st, you can already see the cost of each available membership type there.

Full disclosure: there is a $10 increase on prices from last year.  Note, however, that this is because there are no longer any surcharges: the entire fee is now paid up front.  While the figure listed on the website has gone up, everyone is paying close to the same price as last season (the club is actually receiving slightly less per membership).

AW's 2026/27 Summer Season of Weekly Wednesday Meets

One of the most appealing aspects of Athletics Wollongong is the friendly, social atmosphere of our meets held at Beaton Park. These are on Wednesdays from 5:30pm during the track and field season. To help prospective members get a feel for what club membership offers, we’re confirming the key dates for 2026/27:

  • September 23rd - Info Night (for new and prospective members)
  • September 30th - Come & Try #1 (Sprints and Throws)
  • October 7th - Come & Try #2 (Distance and Jumps)
  • October 14th - Pointscore commences
  • December 16th - Christmas Special
  • January 6th - Pointscore resumes
  • March 10th - End of Season Special

Those checking the calendar can see that 'pointscore' will consist of ten meets scheduled on either side of the Christmas/New Year break.  Each half of the season will consist of two rotations of a four-round program that covers all the events, along with two 'specials' to keep things interesting.  All up: twenty pointscore meets, two warm-up nights, and an info evening for newbies to come and figure it all out beforehand.  Returning members will note that it's the same format as was used last season.

More detailed info will be available in the coming weeks, including the events to be held each round, along with the schedule of distance races.  We hope you're as excited as we are!

Wednesday Night Sponsors

The 2026/27 Summer Season of Weekly Wednesday Meets will be even more jam-packed with opportunites for our members to be rewarded for their participation!

Run Havoc will return with their popular sponsorship of the club.  As was the case last season, each month there will be 2 x $100 Run Havoc vouchers up for grabs.

  • 'Participation' voucher winners will be determined by lucky draw, with members earning an entry each time they participate in a club event.
  • 'Achievement' vouchers are awarded for the best performance in a nominated event each month.  These events will either be handicaps or performances will be age-scaled, giving everyone a chance to take out the win.

A new sponsor emerges!  Each and every week of pointscore, $100 will be up for grabs!  You needn't be the fittest or fastest to be in the running.  It might be whomever's closest to a certain distance in their field event, or runs closest to a time that they nominate.  We'll shake it up each week but the guiding principle will be: give an event a go and you'll get a fair shot at the money!

More details to come - along with the announcement of our generous new sponsor.

Commonwealth Games

The countdown is on for Glasgow, with Australia’s best athletes preparing to take on the Commonwealth’s finest from 23 July to 2 August.

Athletics Wollongong is incredibly proud to have our clubmate Delta Amidzovski selected as part of the Australian Team, where she will contest the women’s long jump.

Delta’s selection represents another exciting milestone in an already impressive journey. After winning gold at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, she now steps onto the senior stage.

She heads to Glasgow in outstanding form, with her huge 6.84m jump in qualifying at the Australian Championships currently ranking her among the leading Commonwealth contenders.

For Athletics Wollongong, Delta’s selection is a special moment. It continues a proud tradition of club athletes representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games and provides inspiration to the next generation - showing what can be achieved through commitment, perseverance and a love of the sport.

The entire Athletics Wollongong community wishes Delta the very best of luck at the Commonwealth Games. We’ll be cheering her on every step - and every jump - of the way!

World Athletics U20 Championships

Also heading overseas are AW's Chase Grant, Chelsy Wayne and Maiya Hewitt, who have been selected to represent Australia at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

Chase will contest both the 400m and the 4x400m relay, while Maiya will line up in the 400m hurdles. Chelsy returns to the discus circle, this time as a senior team member, following her appearance at the Lima edition two years ago.

The Championships will be held from 5 August to 9 August and will be streamed live on World Athletics and 7plus.

Representing your country on the world stage is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the countless hours of hard work and dedication each athlete has invested.

The entire Athletics Wollongong community is immensely proud of Chase, Chelsy and Maiya, and wishes them every success in the green and gold. We can't wait to follow their performances and will be cheering them on in Oregon!

World Athletics U20 Championships Fundraising Thanks

It's a tremendous honour to represent Australia at the World Athletics U20 Championships, but the opportunity comes at a significant personal cost. Athletics Wollongong called upon our community to help support our three representatives, and the response was nothing short of incredible.

The generosity of our members, families, friends and the wider community was truly overwhelming. Whether you attended our barefoot bowls fundraiser, purchased a lucky draw ticket, or made a donation to the online campaign, every contribution helped make a real difference.

Thanks to that outstanding support, Athletics Wollongong was able to donate $4,200 to each of Chase, Chelsy and Maiya, helping them pursue their dream of representing Australia on the world stage.

To everyone who contributed in any way, thank you. Your support is a wonderful reflection of the spirit of our club and the strength of our community.

Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore

Thanks to our friends at Run Havoc, three $100 vouchers are up for grabs as part of Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore. One will be awarded to the overall winner, while the other two will be decided by lucky draw—one with entries earned through participation and the other through performing volunteering duties at parkrun.

The competition is based on your six best age-grade performances at any parkrun between May and August, so it's not too late to qualify - just!

Congratulations to Des Comer, Cath Chisholm, Tom Schambron and Seattle Bazley, who participated on all four Saturdays in June. Des also volunteered as a tail walker, earning an extra entry into the volunteer prize draw.

Leading the Open category performances were Olivia Sivills (two runs over 70%, including first outright at Shellharbour), Ros Perry (69%) and Scott Bazley (68%). In the Juniors, Bronte Vermey recorded an impressive 73%, while E.J. McHenry posted three runs over 68%.

The travellers for the month were Scott and Seattle Bazley and Olivia Sivills, who all completed parkrun at Jindabyne. A special mention also to Tristan Swinbourne, who continues volunteering at North Wollongong parkrun as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.

To join the Pointscore, simply register for parkrun (it's free!) and list Athletics Wollongong as your club in your parkrun profile.

Winter Field Get-Together

This Winter Season has been very run-focused, and our field event athletes may be feeling a little left out! To give our jumps and throws athletes some well-deserved attention, we'll be holding a jumps and throws get-together at Beaton Park on Saturday, 22 August from 1pm to 3pm.

Come along for an afternoon of field event fun!

Both 2025/26 and 2026/27 memberships will be eligible, so this is a great opportunity for both new and returning members to get involved. More details to come.

Winter Championship Wrap-Up

Athletics Wollongong athletes have enjoyed a strong winter season, with plenty of outstanding performances across the cross country championships.

Ten AW members competed at the NSW Cross Country Championships at Williandra. Congratulations to Xavier Wilson, Cristine Suffolk and Kai Levitski on their respective gold medals, and to Olivia Sivills and Erin Smillie on their third-place finishes.

It was a similar story at the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships, with Olivia Sivills again finishing third in the Open Women’s event. Cristine Suffolk and Kai Levitski matched their previous gold medal-winning performances, while Andrew Macpherson also secured a second-place finish.

Winter season reaches its championship finale

The winter season will culminate with the Australian Cross Country Championships, to be held in Ballarat on 22 August. Bringing together athletes from Under 11 through to Masters, the event incorporates the Australian All Schools Cross Country Championships, Australian Masters Cross Country Championships and UniSport Cross Country Championships, making it a true celebration of cross country running across all levels.

Congratulations to any Athletics Wollongong athletes who earn selection - we wish you the very best as you take on the top runners from across Australia.

Athletics Wollongong athletes have already enjoyed success on the representative stage this winter, with Olivia Sivills recently representing NSW at the Australian Half Marathon Championships.  She finished 8th in the University category and 26th in the Australian female titles.

Congratulations also to Cristine Suffolk on her outstanding performances at the Australian Deaf Games, winning gold in the 400m and 1500m, as well as silver in the long jump.

School Events

You know summer track and field is just around the corner when it's time for the All Schools Championships!

The Primary All Schools will be held on 15–16 August at Blacktown, with entries now open. The Secondary All Schools will follow at Sydney Olympic Park from 26–29 September.

These events mark the beginning of the summer competition season, with many of our younger athletes getting their first taste of championship competition. We wish all AW members taking part the very best of luck!
