2025/26 Registrations

It's not too late to sign up for Season 2025/26!

To join us, simply go to the Registration page on the club website.

Run Havoc Vouchers

Run Havoc's sponsorship of Athletics Wollongong this season continues to be a great success, with our members earning $100 gift vouchers at our pointscore meets.  Each month we give away one voucher for participation and one for achievement.

Show your appreciation of Run Havoc's support by giving them a visit.  You'll find them in Wollongong's lower mall - where AW members can receive a 5% discount - or online HERE.  If you're looking for shoes, running gear or nutrition, then check out Run Havoc.

The participation voucher is awarded by lucky draw.  All you need to do to gain entries in the draw is to enter a programmed event on a Wednesday.  The more weeks you attend - and the more events you participate in - the more entries you gain and the better your chances of winning.  Our November voucher winner was Amanda Lawson, whose winning entry was in the 800m Walk!

The December participation draw will be made at our Christmas Special on Wednesday the 17th.  With only three AW meets this month, your odds of winning are the best yet!

The monthly achievement voucher is awarded by performance in a nominated event.  Our final achievement event of 2025 will also be at our Christmas Special: the Athletics Wollongong Gift.

The Athletics Wollongong Gift

Who will win the 10th Athletics Wollongong Gift and add their name to the honour roll?

This Wednesday is AW's Christmas Special and the feature event is The Athletics Wollongong Gift.  It's a handicapped 100m race with the club's fastest sprinter running the full distance and everyone else getting a headstart based upon their previous performances.

To participate in The Gift, there will be a signup sheet on the noticeboard that night. Tick your name prior to kick-off at 5:30pm and you'll be in the field.  You'll be up against athletes of your own age in the heats, with those winners then progressing through to the final.

Note that if you haven't had a sprint performance recorded then we won't be able to supply a handicap. While you're welcome to participate in the heats, we'd just be guessing at an appropriate mark, so it would be unfair if you were then allowed to progress through to the final.  Similarly, only AW club members can fully participate.

There'll be a $100 Run Havoc gift voucher up for grabs and prize money for our podium finishers.  All competitors will also earn an entry in the Run Havoc participation voucher draw.

Note that at our events we record finish times only; there are no wind readings, effort estimates, or adjustments for other factors that may influence the time recorded at the finish line. Consequently, handicaps are estimates based on the information available.  Despite the inclusion of prizes, all participants should treat The Gift as a bit of fun.

Christmas Special

Our final Wednesday meet of 2025 will be December 17th, when we will hold our Christmas Special.

In addition to the Athletics Wollongong Gift, there'll be a free BBQ for members and their supporters, a 4x400m relay, novelties, and some select field events.

We'll then return in 2026 on January 7th - there's plenty to look forward to in the New Year!

Early event closures

Speaking of 2026, don't be caught unawares by some of the entry closing dates, early in the New Year:

Wollongong Aquathon

Illawarra’s legendary MMJ Wollongong Aquathon and Blue Mile 5 Fun Run are set to celebrate 26 awesome years, come Monday 26th January, in 2026.

The action and all-age fun kicks off with the Blue Mile 5k fun run at 8am, with four swim-run aquathon’s afterwards.  The Fun Run takes in a spectacular coastal course from Wollongong harbour, along the blue mile and back for a thrilling finish on Cliff Road.  Awesome vibe, professional services, finisher medals and loads of fun to be had.

Run, walk, stroll or try the Aquathon events and be part of this amazing community event.

As a special offer, Athletics Wollongong members can get 20% off their 5k entry using the code 'AWBM526'.

Wollongong Aquathon Volunteering

Athletics Wollongong will be lending assistance at the Aquathon.  We've been an event partner for many years, assisting entrants at check-in.  The event chief is a former AW member and shows his appreciation for our help with a donation to the club.  It's a fun morning and we're now calling for volunteers to lend a hand this January 26th.

It's an early start (and finish), so - to sweeten the deal - athletes who assist will become eligible for club funding to participate in the Junior or Open National Championships.  The last few years it's been $200 - which is pretty good for a couple of hours' work!

To express your interest, or ask for further information, send an email to athleticswollongong@gmail.com.

Club Captain

This season's Club Captain was announced at our 'Beaton Park Anniversary' club meet.  This night recognises our first competition held at the ground, way back in 1958, and serves as a reminder of the selfless acts made by volunteers that have incrementally improved Athletics Wollongong over time.

As part of the commemoration, we award a deserving member the title of 'Club Captain'.  Widely respected, they represent the 'ideal' club member: always striving to improve, giving encouragement to others, displaying great club spirit, and acting as a role model.

It was a great pleasure to bestow this honorific for Season 2025/26 upon Rodney Tebbutt.  Congratulations, Rod!

Treloar Shield Results

The Treloar Shield preliminary rounds concluded with Athletics Wollongong finishing in the following positions in each division:

  • Open - 11th
  • Para - =18th
  • 10's-12's - =43rd
  • 13's-14's - =26th
  • 15's-17's - 19th
  • 35-49 - 14th
  • 50+ - 2nd

Congratulations to our 50+ Masters, who fought their way through to the final for the second consecutive year. An incredible 17 athletes contributed to a strong team performance across the six preliminary rounds.

Dedicating their efforts in the final to AW’s Donna Hiscox, who suffered a serious set of injuries in Round 5, the team matched their 2024 result with another outstanding silver-medal finish.

Australian School Championships Results

The Primary School Sports Associations's Australian Championships were held in Canberra in late November.  Four AW members made the trek and all put in honourable performances.

Harlow Pate was the talk of the track with National Records in the 11 years 100m and 200m events, while Para athlete Ollie Sandona was lucky he didn't fly as his return journey would have been well above his luggage allowance: medals galore!  Lincoln Gorrie and Jarrah Flack also brought home bling, with a bronze in the 10 Boys Discus and gold in the 11 Boys Medley relay, respectively.

Australian All Schools hosted the country's best secondary school athletes with ten from Athletics Wollongong making their way to Melbourne earlier this month.

Sidney Bartle was first to find their way to the top of the medal dais, with a win in the U15 Hammer.  That U15s division proved rich pickings, with Drew Cooney (800m) and Savannah Wiki (Shot Put) also both winning bronze.

Maiya Hewitt ran a meet record (and World Athletics U20 Championship qualifying time) in the U17 400m Hurdles - while also picking up a bronze in the long jump for good measure.  Cheyenne Murray was a dual medallist also, earning a silver in the U18 400m and a gold as part of the NSW Mixed 4x400m team.

South Coast Highlands Zone Results

A big thank you to our Junior Representative Kris Lorkin who took on the organisation of all aspects of AW's representation at the South Coast Highlands Zone Championships.

AW had 13 entrants at the event, with it being a potential pathway to the State Championships for our younger members.  Full results are available HERE, but special mention must be made of our Zone Record breakers: Augustus Moore in the 15s 400m, Drew Cooney in the 15s 800m, Emily Perry in the 14s 90m Hurdles, and Samson Baltyn in the 13s 90m Hurdles.

Next up are the Region Champs, to be held at Beaton Park, Feburary 7th & 8th.

Athletics Wollongong Wednesday REACT Results

Our results each Wednesday are sponsored by React Facility Solutions.

React's range of services includes:

  • Cleaning (residential, end-of-lease and commercial)
  • Maintenance & Handyman Services
  • Lawns & Landscaping, and
  • Demolition Labour

We'd like them to consider lending the same support next season so, if you do require any of their services, please give them strong consideration - and let them know you heard about them from AW!

Though posted to Facebook, you can always find the results on the AW club website.

The club records are also noted there, though these are only updated during the Christmas break and at the end of the season: too much work, otherwise!  There have already been an incredible sixty-nine broken records so far in 2025/26!

Starter Roster Trial

Our volunteer/helper stocks are in a bit of a trough for the moment.  This is particularly the case with the starter role, where we've recently had to scrabble on the night for someone to take up the electronic gun these past few weeks.  Taking our lead from parkrun, we're going to trial having a sign-up list where people can volunteer ahead of time.  It'll be on the noticeboard at club, and posted to the club Facebook in the days leading up to the competition.  Note that full training will be provided, though there's not really much to it!

Committee Vacancies

We are very keen to have a chat with anyone who can fill the remaining open positions on the Committee.  Note that we don't need you to have amazing qualifications, we're just after people that want to work towards the best possible outcomes for the club and its members.

  • Secretary - you'll need to be able to attend most monthly Committee meetings, held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 7pm 'til 8:30pm or so at the Tennis Club.  The main duties are to send the agenda out beforehand and then the meeting minutes afterwards.
  • Publicity Officer - promote the club and the feats of its members; particularly to external entities.
  • Development Officer - the required duty is to ensure an accurate record is kept of coach affiliations and qualifications.  Apart from that: encourage the development of coaches, officials, helpers, and so on.

Some of the tasks within the roles are nice-to-haves, but others are definite must-dos.  Without people in these roles, those already on the Committee will have to spread themselves even thinner to ensure that the must-do's happen.

If you have some time to donate, please consider lending your club some assistance.

Donate to Athletics Wollongong

If you can't donate your time, perhaps you can donate your money!  This season, all clubs have been encouraged to set up a portal on the fundraising website provided by the the Australian Sports Foundation.  If you support our mission and would like to assist us in reaching our goals, please feel free to make a donation.  Thank you to those who have already donated!
