2026/27 Memberships are NOW OPEN

To join us for 2026/27, simply go to the Registration page on the club website (www.athleticswollongong.org.au).

Note that if you hold a 2025/26 membership and wish to continue participating in track and field - either with Athletics Wollongong or in any other NSW Athletics-affiliated club/competition - then you'll need to sign up for the new season.

Full disclosure: there is a $10 increase on listed prices from last year.  Note, however, that this is because there are no longer any additional surcharges: the entire fee is now paid up front.  While the figure listed on the website has gone up, everyone is paying close to the same price as last season (the club is actually receiving slightly less per membership).

Save money!

Here are some tips and tricks that may save you money this season:

  • Active and Creative Kids Vouchers - School students may use $50 or $100 of Active and Creative Kids Vouchers to help pay registration fees. Obtain your Active and Creative Kids Voucher number before signing up and then enter it during the registration process.
  • Family Discount - Three or more in your family to register with Athletics Wollongong?  You will get $10 off the price of each membership.  See the Registration page for futher details before you sign up.
  • Uni Student Discount - Never joined AW before and are attending the University of Wollongong?  Contact us for a code to take $42 off competitive memberships.
  • Presentation Discounts - A range of 2026/27 membership discounts were awarded at Presentation.  Pointscore winners in the U20s to Masters groups earned $42 off their re-registration, while those who were medallists at Open or Junior Nationals received Membership Scholarships that comprised an even greater discount.  Please contact us if you need help applying your discounts.
  • Multi Club Membership - Already a member of another NSW Athletics-affiliated club or Little Athletics Centre?  You can still join in all the fun at Athletics Wollongong and receive member benefits without needing to purchase an additional, full-priced registration.  A Multi Club Membership with AW will only cost $42, saving up to $148.  See the Registration page for futher details before you sign up.
  • Upgrading your membership - It can be a smart idea to initially join up as a Community member and only upgrade your membership to a higher level as you need to.  While your competitive aims may be loftier than AW's own meets (where a Community membership will suffice) there's always the chance of injury or other commitments getting in the way come Championships (for which you'll need a higher-level membership).  As there's no additional cost to upgrade, it's basically some free insurance to purchase a Community membership at first..
  • No uniform required - you don't need to purchase a uniform to participate at our club meets, just wear whatever's comfortable.  It's only when you represent the club at higher-level events that you need to buy a top.
  • Track Entry Discount - planning on regularly attending AW's Wednesday meets?  You can buy a 25-visit track pass at the Leisure Centre front counter to cover our entire season and save over 10% on your entry.
  • Family Track Entry - two adult and two concession track entries come at a discount when purchasing a Family Track pass.
  • Monthly Track Pass - attending the track at times other than our Wednesday meets?  You can purchase a monthly track pass and be ahead if you're there as little as three times per fortnight.
  • Leisure Centre Membership - using the gym or taking a class in addition to running with AW each week?  You're throwing money away if you don't have a Leisure Centre Membership!  The more you use the facilities at Beaton Park - or Lakeside - the more you save.

Field Day Fun Day

It's been a long and running-focused Winter Season - so we're putting on a social chuck and jump for Athletics Wollongong members!

Join us on Saturday, August 22nd at Beaton Park from 1pm for some very casual field events: shot put, discus, hammer throw and javelin; long jump, triple jump and high jump.

No pressure, no fierce competition - just a chance to have a throw, a jump and a bit of fun with your fellow AW members. Whether you're a seasoned field eventer or haven't tried these events before, come along and have a go!

AW's 2026/27 Summer Season of Weekly Wednesday Meets

Our 2026/27 Season will really kick-off with the commencement of AW's weekly meets.  These are welcoming and friendly occasions, held at Beaton Park on Wednesdays from 5:30pm.  The season outline is as per below:

  • September 23rd - Info Night (for new and prospective members)
  • September 30th - Come & Try #1 (Sprints and Throws focus)
  • October 7th - Come & Try #2 (Distance and Jumps focus)
  • October 14th - Pointscore commences
  • December 16th - Christmas Special
  • January 6th - Pointscore resumes
  • March 10th - End of Season Special

Pointscore will consist of ten meets scheduled on either side of the Christmas/New Year break.  Each half of the season will consist of two rotations of a four-round program that covers all the events, along with two 'specials' to keep things interesting.  All up: twenty pointscore meets, two warm-up nights, and an info evening for newbies to come and figure it all out beforehand.  Returning members will note that it's the same format as was used last season.

The full season calendar and summary of events to be held each round are now available on the Competition page of the club website.  Check it out!  We hope you're as excited as we are!

Wednesday Night Sponsors

The 2026/27 Summer Season of Weekly Wednesday Meets will be even more jam-packed with opportunites for our members to be rewarded for their participation!

Run Havoc will return with their popular sponsorship of the club.  As was the case last season, each month there will be 2 x $100 Run Havoc vouchers up for grabs.

  • 'Participation' voucher winners will be determined by lucky draw, with members earning an entry each time they participate in a club event.
  • 'Achievement' vouchers are awarded for the best performance in a nominated event each month.  These events will either be handicaps or performances will be age-scaled, giving everyone a chance to take out the win.

The schedule of 'Achievement' events is now available on the Competition page of the club website.  If you're an infrequent attendee of our club meets, make sure that you're there on one of the nights a Run Havoc voucher winner is determined.

A new sponsor emerges!  Each and every week of pointscore, $100 cash will be up for grabs!  You needn't be the fittest or fastest to be in the running.  It might be whomever's closest to a certain distance in their field event, or runs closest to a time that they nominate.  We'll shake it up each week but the guiding principle will be: give an event a go and you'll get a fair shot at the money!  More details to come.

Australian Cross Country Championships

The winter season will culminate with the Australian Cross Country Championships, to be held in Ballarat on August 22nd.  Bringing together athletes from Under 11s through to Masters, the event incorporates the Australian All Schools Cross Country Championships, Australian Masters Cross Country Championships and UniSport Cross Country Championships, making it a true celebration of cross country running across all levels.

Athletics Wollongong members contesting the event include: Axel Comer, Olivia Sivills and Xavier Wilson.  We wish them the best of luck!

Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore

The Winter Distance Pointscore competition concludes at the end of this month.

Thanks to our friends at Run Havoc, three $100 vouchers are up for grabs as part of Athletics Wollongong's Winter Distance Pointscore. One will be awarded to the overall winner, while the other two will be decided by lucky draw - the first of these with entries earned through participation and the other through performing volunteering duties at parkrun.  You could still win the latter two vouchers, even if you're yet to participate this season!

There were four parkruns held during July.  Tom Schambron ticked off all four, as well as doubling up on one of the Saturdays with the ANSW State Championships.  Others with a full attendance sheet included Des Comer, who ran in each, and Bryan Kelly, who ran in three and volunteered at the other.

Leading the Open category performances was again Olivia Sivills, who recorded an age-graded finish over 80% - as well as first outright at Reddall Reserve.  Other strong performances came from Ros Perry (69%) and Scott Bazley (71%).  In the Juniors, Seattle Bazley also collected a first placing at Reddall Reserve, while Bronte Vermey recorded two parkruns over 71%.

The travellers for the month were Doug Hughes, who competed at Broken Hill, and Cath Chisholm, who contested Gloucester.

To join the final weeks of the Pointscore, simply register for parkrun (it's free!) and list Athletics Wollongong as your club in your parkrun profile.

Commonwealth Games

It was a fantastic effort from the Australian team at Glasgow's Commonwealth Games.  Athletics Wollongong's own Delta Amidzovski was part of the athletics action, making her way through to the Long Jump Final.  In her Games debut she finished just 8cm short of the podium, her 6.75m performance earning her 4th place.

The athletes ahead of her - including Aussie legend and recordholder Brooke Buschkuehl - all have considerably more senior experience, which only augurs well for Delta's development.  It was an inspiring effort and we anticipate seeing Delta on many more rep teams to come - hopefully with some more clubmates alongside!

World Athletics U20 Championships

It was a mixed bag of experiences for AW's representatives at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

Unfortunately, Maiya Hewitt suffered a hamstring injury during the Australian team camp and was unable to take her place on the start line.  It was undoubtedly a tough time, watching the 400m Hurdles Heats and wondering where her season best could have taken her.  If there are any positives, it's that she's still young enough to make the next World U20s, and that this taste of international competition has left her hungry for more.

Chelsy Wayne contested the qualification round of the discus, but unfortunately the 34cm PB she needed to progress through to the final wasn't there when she went looking for it.  It's a brutal sport at times, but with two appearances representing Australia at the U20s and all the right moves being made off the field, Chelsy should be excited about what the future will bring.

Chase Grant had a dream Championships: he was only one spot away from making the 400m final, and his feats as anchor in the 4x400m earned him widespread praise and deserved accolades.  An incredible 44.85s leg saw him finish strongly enough to almost run away with the bronze medal!

Our club is enormously proud of our representatives and heartily congratulates them on their accomplishments.  Well done to all those who assisted them along the way.

NZ Cross Country Championships

Olivia Sivills' representative career continues to gather pace.

Following her senior debut in the green and gold at Oceania earlier this year, she was selected for an Australian development team competing at the New Zealand Cross Country Championships.  The team gave promising Under-23 athletes the opportunity to gain international racing experience - an opportunity Olivia certainly made the most of, finishing 6th in the individual race and helping Australia to a bronze medal in the Teams competition.

Well done, Olivia!

World Masters Championships

Best of luck to any members heading to South Korea for the World Masters Championships!

School Events

The NSW Primary Schools Carnival brought together students from all the various educational streams for a few days of great athletics.  There were some excellent results from our members, particularly Harlow Pate and Kai Levitski, who each brought home several gold medals and broke long-standing records.

It'll soon be the turn of the Secondary students at the NSW All Schools, being held at Sydney Olympic Park from 26–29 September.  Entries are open now, with athletes who hold a NSW Athletics membership - including those with Athletics Wollongong - saving $10 per event.
