Eligible Athletics Wollongong members are able to represent our club in the South Coast Highlands Zone Championships.
The Zone->Region->State pathway was previously just for Little Athletics Centres. With the partnership between ANSW and LANSW in place since last season, it is now accessible to some of our membership. In fact, some will have to contest this event if they hope to compete at State and National Championships later this season.
Firstly, a Junior registration or Multi-Club Membership is necessary - a Community registration only allows participation at club-level events. (You can upgrade your membership to the appropriate level, if necessary: just log in to this page, and click the upgrade button).
It goes into far greater depth HERE, but broadly speaking:
- 9s - 12's: you can only participate in Zone via a Little Athletics Centre.
- 13's - 15's: you can enter this Zone Champs as an Athletics Wollongong member. You can then win your way through to State by finishing among the top placegetters and progressing to the next level. It's not the only way to qualify: you can also make it by having one of the top results in the Region, so long as it's performed at an appropriate event (e.g. Treloar, High Velocity, Country Champs, etc. - see the link above for details).
- 16's - Under 20's: you enter State directly, but you can choose to participate in Zone and Region for fun.
- Opens & up: you cannot participate at Zone or Region (NB - you also enter your respective State Championships directly).
Zone and Region differ from most other events, as it is almost exclusively delivered by parents of athletes, rather than officials affiliated with the State body. Consequently, if you sign up, parents should note that they're also signing up to assist at an event for a period of time.
Both the Zone (29th & 30th Nov) and Region (7th & 8th Feb) Championships will be held at our home track of Beaton Park this season. State is programmed for Sydney Olympic Park (12th-15th March for 13's to Under 20; 21st-22nd March for 9's to 12's).
If you'd like to enter the Zone Championships, do so here: https://www.nswathletics.org.au/events/310218.
Entries close Saturday, 15th November (23:59)
Draft program is shown in the images below.
