BIG events at our home track in the New Year

Published Sat 30 Dec 2023

These events are held at Beaton Park by Athletics NSW, along with local co-hosts.  (You can find all ANSW events on their event calendar).  Athletics Wollongong is helping deliver the NSW Country Champs - we'll need your help to assist on the BBQ or out in the field!

Members with the following registration types are eligible to enter: Youth, Junior, Open and Concession.  If you have a Volunteer or Community membership and wish to participate, you'll have to upgrade first (go to the AW Home page, Log in, and then follow the Upgrade link).

You'll also need a club uniform.  Singlets and crop-tops are available from the club - most easily, on a Wednesday prior to our meets commencing, from the track office in the grandstand.  Our new order - including kids' sizes - is anticipated to arrive early January.  Athletes provide their own bottoms, given the wide variety of types available and wearer preference.  They should be plain-colored: officially royal blue, but black has been proven as OK.

Illawarra Track Challenge: Saturday, 13th January
ANSW Event page: https://www.nswathletics.org.au/events/217644/
Entries close: 12:00pm, 10th January (then late entries available 'til 11:59pm 10th January)

This is an event for all ages 8+, similar to the Treloar Shield (or the High Velocity/Sydney Milers meets, with the addition of some supporting field events).  It also includes the NSW Championships for both the 60m and Mile events, meaning it's a great spectacle - even if you're not competing.

NSW Country Championships: Friday, 19th January - Sunday, 21st January
ANSW Event page: https://www.nswathletics.org.au/events/200990/
Entries close: 12:00pm, 5th January (then late entries available until 11:59pm, 8th January)

The best event on the calendar is returning to Wollongong!  This is the largest event that the entire family can participate in (State Champs are divided into various age groups and spread over different weekends).  The last time Country was held in Wollongong was 2018, so don't miss this opportunity to experience a rare, home event!

Part of the price of a home field advantage is that local clubs will be required to assist with set-up, pack-up, and helping out in the field throughout.  AW will also be running a BBQ.  We're looking to have a roster of helpers so that the burden might be shared as equally as possible.  Prepare to donate at least a couple of hours of your labour and just consider it a part of the entry cost.

Athletics Wollongong are also the back-to-back reigning club champions; let's defend our title on our home turf!
