Carnival Rules

General Rules
Competition is under the rules of Athletics NSW (adapted).

  • The grass infield is only accessible to officials conducting an event. It is out of bounds to all others.
  • Points awarded for placings: 11 for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 4 for 3rd.
  • Athletes compete in the age division they turn this year. For example, if an athlete has, or will turn 15 in 2008, they are to compete in the 15yrs division. If, and only if, an event is not catered for in their division, they may compete within a single age group above their division.
  • An athlete leaving an event to compete in another event can come back and continue in the round which is in progress or, in the case of High Jump, at the height of the bar. No more than one attempt in throwing events, long, or triple jump shall be allowed in the same round. No event will be delayed in favour of another event.

Field Events
Throws and Horizontal Jumps- Three competition attempts only.

High Jump - The bar will rise by 5cm increments until there are two competitors remaining, after which it will rise by 3cm at a time. In the case of all competitors not clearing the starting height, the bar will be lowered 5cm. If only one competitor then jumps successfully, that jump concludes the competition.
Spikes are to be a maximum of 9mm in length.

Track Events
  • Finalists for the 100m and 200m will be determined by fastest heat times.
  • Placings in track events greater than 200m, will be determined.
    by the fastest heat times if it is necessary to run more than one heat.
  • On the day, if heats are not required, the final will be run at the programmed heat time.
  • Relay Teams are in Primary and Secondary divisions. A team comprising of both male and female athletes will compete in the male event.
  • Spikes are to be a maximum of 7mm in length.
